Equine veterinary emergencies can range from horses with porcupine quills stuck in their muzzles to horses stuck in wells. Trust us, we’ve seen it all!

Other more common emergencies include colic, laminitis, lacerations, infectious diseases, and bone fractures, to name a few. For all these situations, horse owners need to know what to do and when to call their veterinarian for help.

Did you know we have a veterinarian dedicated to emergencies and overnight care?
Our nighttime emergency services are led by Dr. Amanda Sarbry, who joined us just over a year ago. Dr. Sarbry completed a yearlong medicine and surgery internship at Texas Equine Hospital, where she later served as an emergency associate veterinarian. Her post-graduate training also included an urgent and emergency care fellowship with the Veterinary Emergency Group. In addition to Dr. Sarbry, our ICU is also staffed by our intern veterinary doctors and day- and nighttime hospital care leads.
For the second installation of our Winter 2024/2025 Client Continuing Education Lecture Series, Dr. Amanda Sarbry will lead the discussion about critical care. She’ll be joined by our intern veterinarians, Drs. Silke Hoffmann and Kayla Jensen. The doctors will share important information horse owners need to know about handling equine emergencies. They will also introduce you to technical large animal emergency rescue methods. Snacks will be provided. Please RSVP to the clinic at (541) 388-4006 or via email at info@bendequine.com.
