Are you confused about what you should feed your horse? You’re not alone! Equine nutrition is a complicated topic, which is why Dr. Shannon Findley is covering how to balance equine diets during our third client continuing education event of the winter season. This free educational event will take place at the clinic.
Dr. Findley is passionate about nutrition and how it relates to your horse’s health, happiness, and performance. It is an enormous topic, so Dr. Findley will focus on the following:
- Understanding a hay analysis and why it is important.
- Concentrates and complete feeds–what’s the difference and how do you choose one?!
- Pelleted diets for geriatric horses–the “how to’s” and “what not to do’s.”
- What to look for in a complete vitamin and mineral supplement.
- Why vitamin E is important and how to know your horse is getting enough of the right kind.
- Feeding horses for weight loss or gain.
- How donkeys’ nutritional needs differ from horses.
Dr. Findley’s practice focuses on whole-horse health from conception through the golden years. She enjoys both the challenges of hospitalized cases and seeing horses on-farm. She also works with several local equine rescues to deliver veterinary care to horses and other equids in need. In her free time, you’ll often find Dr. Findley performing vet checks at or competing in endurance rides with her Arabians. Dr. Findley joined BEMC in 2009 and became a shareholder in 2019.
