Intern Veterinarian

A graduate of the University of California, Davis, (UC Davis) School of Veterinary Medicine with an equine emphasis, Dr. Smith brings a strong foundation in both equine medicine and scientific research, as well as a passion for client education and patient-centered care.

During veterinary school, Dr. Smith worked on the Equine Treatment Crew and in the Large Animal Surgery department at the teaching hospital. There, she gained hands-on experience with hospitalized horses, surgical cases, and critical care patients. Her clinical interests include internal medicine, preventive care, and equine emergency response—an area she has taught as a coordinator and instructor for UC Davis’s Student Veterinary Emergency Response Team (sVERT).

Before veterinary school, Dr. Smith earned her undergraduate degree in biochemistry, biophysics, and molecular biology from Whitman College, graduating cum laude and conducting original behavioral research on pygmy marmosets in Ecuador. She later contributed to zoonotic disease research related to wildfire impacts in the Sierra Nevada, presenting her findings at the National Veterinary Scholars Symposium.

Dr. Smith is also passionate about community service, having volunteered in shelters and wildlife rehabilitation centers.

In her free time, Dr. Smith enjoys hiking, wildlife photography, and exploring the outdoors.

She looks forward to partnering with clients to support the health and performance of their horses.
