Continuing Education


The veterinarians and staff of BEMC Small Animal Division are dedicated to client education, and believe that an educated client has the capacity to make the best health care decisions for their animals. To further this goal, we offer annual client continuing education meetings in late winter.

 

Wednesday December 2, 2015 - Equine Colic

Information on the most common equine emergency we see including common causes of colic,  treatment (what you can do at home), and colic prevention.

Facility Tour to begin at 6:30pm, Lecture provided by Dr. Shannon Findley at 7pm

 

Wednesday January 13, 2016 - Equine and Small Animal Nutrition

The first half of this session will discuss equine nutrition and the second half will focus on dog and cat nutrition (highlighting weight management).

Wednesday February 3, 2016 - Pain Management in Horses and Small Animals

The first half of this session will discuss equine pain management, focusing on treatment of orthopedic discomfort from sport horse to the geriatric retired horse. The second half will focus on orthopedic pain management in dogs and cats.

Wednesday March 2, 2016 - Emergency Care for Horses and Small Animals

What to do before the vet arrives. 

Facility Tour to begin at 6:30pm, Lecture provided by Dr. Jessie Evans at 7pm

 

Equine Bandaging, IM injections, Eye medication administration to follow lecture.

This lecture will have a drawing to give away an Equine and Small Animal First Aid Kit!

BEMC Small Animal Division First Aid Kit


                                 

 

BEMC Small Animal Division has created a Small Animal First Aid Kit to compliment our Equine First Aid Kit.  We designed this kit with our outdoor enthusiasts in mind...we wanted you to have supplies you may need when you have an emergency situation with your dog (or cat) and are far from a veterinary hospital. 

 

Small Animal First Aid Kit Includes:

Saline Solution – 250 mL

4x4 gauze pads

1 Telfa pad

1 roll Cast padding

1 roll Brown gauze

1 roll Vetwrap (colored bandage)

1 roll Elastikon (beige sticky bandage)

Silver Sulfadiazine Cream (SSD)

Eye Drops

Neomycin Polymixin Bacitracin Eye ointment

Hydrogen Peroxide (3%)

12 mL syringe

Diphenhydramine – 10 mg tablets (#10)

Leash

Instruction sheet

Latex gloves
